Katie and Brad's Trip Around Australia

17/03/2004 - Stage 1, Day 29, Page 4 of 4 - Even more of Whaler's Way, SA

Now speaking of the closest living human relative, 98.4% of chimpanzee DNA is identical to that of humans (only 1.6% of our DNA is therefore different). The only problem with this swimming hole was that you would need just a little bit more primate DNA to get there. Evolution has simply been allowed to go on too long!

To get to the swimming hole, you need to dangle precariously down a smooth plastic coated rope hanging over a cliff, and once you reach the end of the rope, you climb down a hand made (as opposed to well made) wooden ladder. After this, you simply skirt the base of the cliff on a narrow ledge approximately 100m in length and made up entirely of loose fallen rocks. Simple really, if you're a chimp with a steel skull to deflect any falling rocks from above.

Did you notice how there are no pictures of us down there?

The next point of call was Whale Chaser Crevasse. Here's Bradley standing on the edge to check it out.
