Sunday 10th April 2005 - The day before I leave Paris
With my time in Paris at an end, I spent my last full day wandering around the local district until well after my feet began lodging complaints. Near my apartment was a big garden store that I had been eyeing off. Luckily they were open on Sunday (this is very rare outside the city centre). Here are some pretty flowers I found.
It turned out to be one of those big shops that sell all sorts of things, including rocking horses and rocking reindeers. I'd never seen a rocking reindeer before!
In the pet section I found this unfortunate guinea pig who was clearly having a very bad hair day.
Then there was this sleepy little chinchilla. I'd never seen one of them before.
From there I made my way to Serris, an old village nearby. These are some typical homes from the district.
In someone's back yard I discovered a pen of French chickens! These ladies wasted no time in lining up for a photo - I'm sure it had nothing to do with the hand full of fresh grass I was waving about.
Some of the homes had these amazing vines covering their walls.
Towards the end of my circuit I passed a house that had a big yard with a high fence around it. There was quite a commotion inside, so I found a hole in the fence and took a peek. Their yard was stacked with loads of junk, and a lot of particularly vocal poultry in all different breeds and colors. They had geese, turkeys, ducks and chickens, just to name a few. Unfortunately it was difficult to get good photos through my secret peephole, so only a few of the rooster pictures turned out well.
