Sunday 3rd April, 2005 - A visit to Euro Disney Village
My apartment in Paris was a short walk from Euro Disney, but not being interested it that sort of thing, I didn't bother visiting the place until the week before I left Paris. And even then, I was a cheapie and only went to the free part, Disney Village, and not to the bits you have to pay to see.
Nevertheless, here are some cool flowers I saw in the grass on the way there.
Here's the road leading down to Disney. I took the photo because I was stunned by how plastic and cheesy the place looked; and I really didn't think I'd be able to describe it adequately. Honestly, it looked very out of place in the French landscape.
Here're some pretty little dandelions I found in the grass.
I went into some of the souvenir shops. Again I was lost for words... Can you actually imagine wearing one of these imitation suede numbers? Didn't tassels go out in the eleven hundreds, or thereabouts? Except I suppose in the States, where it might have been as late as the seventeen hundreds??? Maybe this is left-over stock. Ride'em cowgirl!
Hi-ho Silver!
All was not lost. I found a beer garden which sold their ale by the litre glass. Now we're talkin' turkey!
Although after one glass I think I was walkin' and talkin' like a turkey...
They had a spiel about the Wonderful World of Beer on their menu. Far be it for me to let such an important piece of literature go past without a photo.
There was only one ride in Disney Village - all the others were in the paying customer part. Needless to say I jumped onboard. It was a balloon ride thingie which took you up in the air. Here're a couple of pictures of Disney Village that I took on the way up. The part in the front is Disney Village, and the pink rooftops in the background are the expensive part I didn't go to.
This is the view from the top, but looking away from the whole Disney shabang.
Here is the balloon on its way up with the next load of bunnies.
Finally, Kiara is a big Tinker Bell fan, and being Disneyland there was a veritable plethora of Tinker Bells. I thought this last couple were pretty cool, but their price tags ensured that they were photo material only.
During my big Disney excursion I got a phone call from Phan and Phuong, some friends who are currently living in Germany. They had arrived in Paris the day before and wanted to catch up for some tasty Vietnamese treats in the Asian district of Paris. I scooted into town and met them at Notre Dame, where I found out that the Pope had died the day before (the crowd there was huge). I got these two pictures inside the church.
Unfortunately I was too busy eating for most of the time I spent with Phan and Phuong, and I forgot to take any pictures of them or our salubrious lunch!
