24/02/2004 - Stage 1, Day 7, Page 2 - Melbourne to Mildura, VIC with pics - uploaded late on 1/03/2004 from Roxby Downs, SA
Greetings to all from sunny Roxby Downs. Well, we finally made it here.
At least we've done something that was on our plan!
Before I go ahead and explain the last few days, I'll show you some of the
pictures we couldn't upload with our last web update. But just a quick
note on picture quality. We tried to drop the image quality on our camera
to make the pictures quicker to download on the website, but it didn't
really work out well. Some of the pictures are therefore at a pretty crap
resolution, but this won't happen with any of our future updates.
The picture to follow is our first campsite at the Grampians, near the
Smiths Mill camping area (we drove further down the track and camped out in the bush)
Being the first night out and all (18/02/2004), we needed to make a loaf of
bread. Humm, how many coals does it take to get a camp oven up to 230
degrees Celcius? We discussed the topic and decided that that sounded
pretty hot, so we went all out on the coals! Have a look at the two loaves
of bread in the foreground of the following two pictures. The black
charred lump on the left is attempt one. We were FAR too keen with the
coals, so we tried again after dinner and on the right is attempt two!
A perfect loaf of pasta dura bread! Fit for a king!
On our third day out (20/02/2004) we dropped in at Mount Crozier for a
look-see before having lunch at Rocket Lake. The first picture to follow
is Bradley heading off on a mission from god at the Mount Crozier camping
area. The second picture is Bradley heading up the steps to the lookout.
And what did we see?? Mile after mile of mallee scrub of course!
We took a couple of pictures at the Rudd's on the day we left Mildura
(24/02/2004). Here is me in front of the sultana drying racks and the vines.
And here's Bradley and Peter (driving the tractor). Peter was in the midst
of cutting off all of his grape vines because he's going to pull them all
out this year and plant his property in chardonay grapes.
