12-06-2004 - Stage 2, Day 15 - Longreach, QLD
What did I say about those well laid plans! Well we'd broken them within an hour of signing off the web! We did head to Coles to get our weeks shopping, but we hadn't planned the near death experience which ensued in the drinks and chips isle. There we were minding our own business when an unruley shopping trolley lept up and mauled me! You wouldn't believe it, but it did! Ended up having words with the manager, who sent us down to the local quack for a bit of a fix up (and a horrible tetnus injection!). Here's me with my battle scar in front of the medical centre.
Didn't finish at the medical centre until about 5.00pm, so we aborted the plan of leaving for Bourke that day and planned to bust a move early the following morning instead.
Now planning is something which appears to be inherently dangerous to us. Bradley went to get up early the next morning and before he'd made it out of bed, he was rolling around clasping his neck groaning incessently. Took a while to work out what was going on, but it turned out that he'd managed to get himself some muscle spasms causing a rye neck. Ended up spending the whole morning at the physio. And no Tracy, the physio didn't call it 'shagger's back', she definately said 'rye neck!!
Well, it was 11.00am before we finally managed to scoot off to Bourke the next day along the Mitchell Hwy via Nyngan. Stayed in North Bourke that night and took a pic of the caravan park in the early morning from out of the troopie window.
Off again that morning (Thursday 10-06-2004) heading north in our quest for warm weather, and we found it too! Today we broke out the shorts for the first time on our stage two journey! Drove north and stopped for a 'Rock Burger' on the banks of the Warrego River for lunch at Cunnamulla, QLD.
Continued north after lunch. Stopped in momentarily at Charleville then went north another 90km and camped in the bush just past Augathella. Had a grass hopper visit that night.
Next day (Friday 11-06-2004) was north again to Longreach via Tambo, Blackall and Isisford. Stopped at Blackall for lunch and a game of chess. Though I'm not proud to report that Bradley whipped my butt at chess, but he sure did! Passed the Black Stump at Blackall too!
And here's me sitting on the legendary black stump!
Camped by the Thomson River last night just out of Longreach on the Winton Road. Really lovely camp site too, but we didn't take a picture.
The Winton show is on this weekend, so we might drop in for a look at that before continuing our mission north.
ciao amici!
