17/02/2004 - The day before Stage 1 departure - Melbourne, VIC

Well the last night in Melbourne has finally arrived. We celebrated our departure (and Cory's sixth birthday) by having a pool party and drinking a bottle of Grange Hermitage (1980 vintage)! Never done that before! All was fun - We ate fancy stuff and then Brad threw Diana in the pool fully dressed. After a few wines, Brad and I went down to the car and showed off our seriously over packed car to Tracy and Barney. We even remembered to take the camera!

Here's a pretty crap pic of Brad doing all the work carrying the water down to the car.

And Tracy looking impressed (or perhaps bemused) at our packing skills.

This is Barney and I watching Brad do all the work!

An finally, the pièce de résistance. Bradley and I posing in the back of our over-packed troopie.

18/02/2004 - Stage 1 Blast-off!!! - Melbourne, VIC

Well it's now 6.27am on Wednesday and we're just about to head off. The initial plan is to head west, although with an initial minor detour. This morning we're heading straight to Geelong to drop off Brad's red car, then to Ballan to visit his grand parents. After that we're off to the Grampians for the night. The general path after that will be to go for a fly by of the Flinders Ranges up to the Oodnadatta Track at Maree, then head west to the Borefield Road and down to Roxby Downs by Tuesday or Wednesday next week to see Glenn, Amanda and the kiddies (Glenn's got time off work then). Following that I think we'll be heading south to Port Lincoln for a bit of diving. Next web update will most likely be mid next week from Roxby Downs.

I can tell it's going to be a hard life already! Katie and Brad
