Katie's Finally Got a Real Job!
I'm Leaving Australia in Two Days!
That's right folks! I've got myself a real job and I'm off like a shot!
As some of you know I was originally going to be stationed in Gabon in West Africa, but that has changed. My new destination is Oman!
So where is Oman??
Now that there's no excuse for not knowing where Oman is, you might be interested in a few details about my job. I'll be working in the oil and gas industry for a french/german company called Schlumberger. The department I'll be in is called Well Completions and Productivity. They are providing me with a 30-36 month intensive training program, at the end of which I will be a qualified Field Engineer in that industry - a qualification which is recognised world-wide.
I know a few of you will be wondering what a dedicated 'greenie' like me is doing taking on a job with an oil exploration company, but I feel that in a management position within this type of company I will be able to make more of a difference than I would if I were outside the fence hugging the trees (so to speak). But time will tell I guess.
As part of the job (company policy) I will have to live in a different country every 12-18 months. I will also have to fly periodically to their training centres for intensive courses and seminars. Before going to Oman I will be flying to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) for 10 days training. My work will be both on-shore and off-shore at various well sites around the globe.
Schlumberger will be providing all of my travel expenses and a house to live in at each location. I will have 2 months holidays every year, so if you want to play overseas, contact me! I'd love some visitors and holiday companions - you're all welcome!
I have made a Contact Me web page which you can access from my homepage. I plan to keep this up to date with all of my contact details - for both casual chats and emergency contacts.
If you want to catch up before I leave, you'd better pull your finger out! I leave the country late on Saturday night and its unlikely that I'll be back for several years.
