Orange Marsala

A fresh fruit dessert from Sicily, Italy

Recipe Posted on 5th June, 2005

Recipe Source: I first tasted this dish as a dessert in Marinella, Sicily on 18th May 2005. It's a very simple and refreshing dish which is made with slices of orange that are garnished with a drizzle of dry marsala and some shredded fresh mint leaves. This dish is served after a meal as a light fruity dessert.

Marsala is a famous Sicilian fortified wine and there are several verieties available on the island. I use a dry marsala for this dish, although that can be difficult to buy in Australia. If you can't get the dry one, just use any marsala you can get hold of.

Orange slices with marsala and fresh mint - very refreshing!

Ingredients
Sweet juicy oranges, peeled and sliced (use about 1 large orange per person)
Dry marsala
A few fresh mint leaves, shredded

Method
Take a full sized dinner plate for each person and cover it with one layer of fresh orange slices. Drizzle a little marsala over each plate of orange slices, and then garnish each dish with a light sprinkle of shredded fresh mint leaves.
